Regular guys make art too.

Anthony Phong Tran is by all definitions a regular guy. He plays basketball with friends, works a part time security position, enjoys playing online poker, and just like most other guys has a hobby he's passionate about. For Anthony it's photography; shooting almost anything that allows him to, his photos will range anywhere from UFC candids to portraits to just pictures of flowers. Shooting in both color and black and white (and sometimes a mixture of both) his style captures many moods and themes which allows Anthony the flexibility of not being tied down to any particular genre. It's more than just moody black and white pieces, but they also transcend the average photography piece with their subtle strokes of artistic direction. But like all artists of course he favors some styles over others "I really love candid people shots. It shows the natural side and beauty of a person." Anthony uploads all of his work to his flickr at http://www.flickr.com/photos/thirdparty . Upon photography itself Anthony says that he simply finds himself shooting what he likes, his photos a feast of his interests.

You guys wanna see a movie?

The auteurs is an online database of film, a cinephile's dream com true. A site that through the majesty of both IFC and the Criterion Collection offers free monthly festivals where from the safety of your own swivel chair you can watch some very fine films for FREE! The site also acts just as any other internet meeting ground and connects you with many other film geeks happy to supply you with a laundry list of movies you'll be glad to see. The site also has a large library of obscure cinema that runs on a pay-per-view basis, much more convenient than a trip all the way down to wicker park's Odd Obsession, a run I've made before in acts of mad desperation. So hop on and get going, these movies are all deep wells of inspiration

Fun With Exterminators.

All of us huddled in this mess.
Hunting for food.
Sipping tiny draughts.
Taking brief respites.
All of us rats and mice and roaches and ants.
All of us monster.

Some encouraging words from the poet Jack Wiler, who is set to take the JJC stage Tuesday February 10th from 2:30 -3:30 p.m.

Jack is now touring with his latest book "Fun Being Me" a collection of poems. Wiler besides being a poet has also held many jobs which tend to poke through in his writing. This is most evident in his poem "Monsters", where Jack meditates on the morality of exterminators. So be sure to check him out as Jack will also be signing copies of his book and answering questions, This is not an event you will want to miss!
Hey, all right! wordeaters everywhere! great idea for a sounding board, Lucas. You mentioned a poet coming in for a reading. when and where is this reading taking place?
